Russian Hill Estate
Edward Gomez and Ellen Mack established Russian Hill in 1997 after a two-year intensive search for the appropriate site. It was imperative that the land be capable of producing outstanding estate vineyards but also allow for construction of a winery. Only by having full control of both the vineyard and wine production, did the team feel they could produce wines of the quality they envisioned.
This search ended with the discovery of a hilly 20 acre parcel of land located between The Dutton Ranch (Gail Ann’s), Sonoma Cutrer, and Saralee’s Vineyard in the heart of the Russian River Valley. Ed and Ellen built a winery and planted the site to pinot noir and syrah before purchasing a second vineyard site about 5 miles south of the estate in a cool, low lying area of the valley. Farming these sites with a great attention to detail, they are dedicated to the production of world-class Pinot noir and Syrah. The key philosophy of the winery is to maintain the highest degree of excellence in viticultural and winemaking practices to allow wines to fully express the various vineyards that are their source. Today, Russian Hill produces some of the most highly regarded pinot noir and syrah in the appellation, as well as a number of small production vineyard designate wines.
